Fugue Inflow

See with careful stillness,
and it is in everything;
rainbows,
waterfalls,
sunsets,
singing,
paintings that sing,
grass,
wind,
grass dancing in the wind,
concrete,
smiling faces,
music,
someone laughing so hard they crescendo into snorting,
shiny cars,
misty castles,
how glorious and silly bicycles are and the riding thereof,
rhinoceroses and their vegetarian badassery,
geysers,
lust,
carnival dust,
charity,
furniture,
moonlight,
shopping,
shopping in the moonlight,
sacrifice,
shag carpet,
sugar,
sublime performances,
sunshine,
sculpture,
yodelling,
death.
It is in people too,
patchy with fear and anger,
and violence,
and detestable behaviour,
and yet it shines through the cracks of even the worst kinds of people,
which makes it hard to be sad,
hard to hate,
hard to forgive,
hard to judge,
hard not realise that it must be in you too.
You, reading these words which is to say, me or I.
Then it becomes the question for a life.
How is it coming through me?
How do I find it?
How do I see it?
How do I get in tune with it more?
Then all the practices make sense,
the boring meditation,
the painful self reflection,
the excruciating growing pains,
the endless isolation,
and the relief of more consciousness.
Then the prayer becomes,
“Help me get out of the way.”
