Fools & Romance

Love, Consciousness, Passion, and Pyrotechnics.

As you know I often talk about love and consciousness being the same thing, and how love, rather than being the Hollywood-happy-ever-after, is a powerful field that sucks unconsciousness up from our depths into its white hot intensity as it transforms it into consciousness. A process which is often not pretty as the worst parts of us come to light.
Romantic, no?
I know it doesn’t sound like it but romance is a crucial part of the fire of love and why I remain a romantic at heart, a boombox over my head in the rain, rushing in where angels fear to tread, rose between my teeth, grand gesture making, serenading, card-carrying romantic.

It has gotten me into a lot of trouble in my life and almost killed me once. And yet, I wouldn’t have it any other way. I love that part of me. It has never dried up and become sensible or cynical or dead.
I encourage you to dehydrate that part of you if it has and here’s why I think you should.

The Energy of Romance

When it comes to romance what we call maturity is actually fear. What we tut tut about when we see other people jumping into love is fear too. What we catagorise and psychoanalyse into insignificance is the same fear.

We don’t like the out-of-control feeling of falling in love. It is like Shakespear said, “Got me looking so crazy right now,” actually that might have been Beyoncé. We want to protect ourselves from rejection, or making a fool of ourselves, or the impossibility of it all. Yet, in our avoidance of pain we live a half dead kind of life.

We start off looking for true love full of enthusiasm then when we crash and burn a couple of times we understandably drift into caution.

We think it all happens out there in existence, that we have to find, “the one,” but the one is just like us, dealing with their covering of unconsciousness. While true love can come through another person it can’t be consistent because we all have unconsciousness.

Depending on the other person’s internal weather they may be uncovered and the bright light of true love will shine through them, or they may be very covered, dark and bleak, or at least that is what it can feel like and when it happens we are heartbroken.

Which is sad because we are like Harry Potter, stuck in front of the magical mirror that shows you your heart’s desire.
We fall in love with the reflection in the mirror, not realising that there is actually no mirror and what we identify as a reflection is actually inside us.

We are like children, crying for the moon.

We are God playing hide and seek with itself.

We are the lovesick protagonist in the romcom that overlooks the person who loves us, the person we grew up with, who has loved us unconditionally, patiently, powerfully all this time.
When it finally dawns on us, the music swells, we run into their arms and profess our love and how stupid we were not to have seen it, the true love, right in front of our face and instead have been running around chasing, what?
Chasing what we thought was going to be the solution to our aching heart, our pain, our childhood problem, our misidentification with existence, when all the time the mystery has sat patiently, sweetly loving us, ever present inside, waiting for us to come home.

The point wasn’t to find true love in existence, the point was to bring true love into existence.

The point wasn’t to find the love of our life in existence, the point was to bring the love we are into existence.

Big Love

So yes, I love big and I love hard and I encourage you to as well.

Like you I have been betrayed, abandoned, deeply hurt, and humiliated but what else are we going to do with our lives but throw them into the crucible of love and let it burn anything that isn’t love out of us. I know that sounds a bit dramatic but that is what happens and it is why we turn away from romance. It is too crazy, too disruptive.

When it comes to love I have the courage of a fool. I don’t know any other kind of courage you can have for love. It doesn’t make sense, it is not rational but if we can see it for what it is, if we can let it change us it will move through our lives like a muscular beast.

Jumping into love is to immerse yourself in the glorious energy field of romance.  As Shakespear said, “Jump. Jump in . . . for (my) love,” actually that might have been the Pointer Sisters.
Don’t hold back.
Have the courage to be romantic.
Don’t try and protect yourself.
Jump into love and tell the person you love that you love them.
Buy the roses.
Sing the song.
Dance the dance.
Un-blinker your eyes and see the love right inside of you staring back at you through the eyes of the beloved.

Yes! Yes! Yes! I could not agree more!!!
The two lines that touched me the most:
“The point wasn’t to find true love in existence, the point was to bring true love into existence.”
“The point wasn’t to find the love of our life in existence, the point was to bring the love we are into existence.”
